JOSH REVAK

US Army Specialist Joshua Revak of Anchorage, AK enlisted in the Army immediately after the attacks on September 11th, 2001.  He was a tanker on an M1 Abrams main battle tank with the 1st Armored Division.  On his second deployment to Iraq he was in Ramadi to fight a growing resistance there.  After a few minutes outside the vehicle he was riding in, he and his partner Terry Lisk came under mortar fire.  Josh was the driver, Terry was the gunner.  After a few minutes Josh and Terry were hit by a second mortar.  Terry fell off the Humvee and Josh was hit and injured in both feet and ankles.  Both Josh and Terry were taken to an aid station were Terry died.

Josh spent a year recovering with several surgeries before he was medically retired by the Army with a 100% disability including PTSD. He was considered a “limb salvage patient” meaning that one day he would opt for an amputation.  Josh limped for a long time until he was connected with the Center for the Intrepid, DoD’s leading prosthetic lab.  They made Josh an exoskeletal prosthetic made from carbon fiber and he has been getting around with far less paid than before.  Josh currently is the Military and Veterans Affairs Liaison for Alaska Senator Dan Sullivan and is studying for his MBA at Alaska Pacific University.

Josh Revak of Anchorage, AK and his family received a vacation to Oahu and Kauai in July 2017 from Vacations for Warriors.  Josh is married to his wife Marta and they have two lovely young daughters, Keilah and Sydney.Josh and his family had a wonderful time in Hawaii visiting Oahu and Pearl Harbor and then relaxed for 10 days on Kauai and saw all the sights.  Special thanks to American Airlines, the Kauai Veterans on Kauai and Kauai Mayor Bernard Carvalho for showing the Revaks a great time on Kauai.  They loved it!

The Garden Island newspaper covered their arrival in an article titled "Kauai welcomes Wounded Warrior families"
